Our Story

lodgevines.jpghillview.jpg (1)

Point Bush Estates is a small family owned vineyard and winery dedicated to excellence in winegrowing for high quality wine production. Point Bush Estates evolved from a spirited discussion on the potential of the Waimate area as a region for growing grapes.

The Te Kiteroa area is named after the Lodge of the same name which was completed in 1913. Excellent drainage off the ridge creates a frost-free micro- climate on the hill at an elevation of 200m. The Farm was purchased off the estate of the late Doug Bird in 2000 with the first plantings made in 1990 on the Point Bush Block.

These plantings comprised Pinot Noir Burghundian inspired close vine and row spacing and clones 115, 667 and 777 and Riesling clone GM198-19 in roughly equal 1ha areas.

In 2004, we planted the 1/3 ha Te Kiteroa Block in Sauvignon Blanc. First vintage should be in 2007.

In 2000 we planted 1ha of Tuscan Olive varieties at the back of the Point Bush Block to produce high quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil. That’s living with some crusty bread to accompany the wine tasting and palate cultivation.

In pursuing our dream to produce Estate wines, construction of the shed that will eventually become the Winery started in 2005. The winery will be ready to accompany the 2007 vintage.

We operate a “paddock to Palate” quality process at all times. All vineyard work we consider a labour of love with hand picking of the grapes to preserve the fruit quality with great care also extended to handling of the wine through to the bottle.

We wish to maximize your experience.

Wines offered for the 2006 vintage are all sourced off the Estate. The Riesling and Pinot Noir are all sourced from Canterbury and the Sauvignon Blanc is from Marlborough.

We are located on the side of the Waimate hills with a north and easterly aspect.
