After an indifferent season and unusually cool temperatures over summer, the last few days of warm autumn weather have been most welcome and the grapes finally ripened. Yields were down but flavours are divine. Harvest was early May for all 3 varieties (Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir).  Yields were down because of the November weather however, wines are now in tanks and barrels and awaiting bottling in September and October for the whites.

Last year's wines - 2009 Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir Rose have been very popular and sold well at all the Wine & Food Festivals we attended over summer.  The opening of Vintner's Drop in Kurow at Christmas to showcase Waitaki  and Waimate wines is a landmark for the area.

Our labels are works of art!

The Riesling 2007 label featuring the Fantails was a commissioned Artwork by Waimate born Artist, Maree White (Mouse).  From this commissioned work, our Fantail logo is now featured on the Pinot Gris 2008 label.

The Pinot Noir Rosé is named in honour of Scamp, the loyal and trusted companion of John, our employee. Scamp was a tireless terror for all rabbits and hares as well as any birds in the vineyard. He was full of life and could dribble and toss a rugby ball on his nose with great skill keeping busloads of visitors entertained. He was buried with his rugby ball.
