Welcome to our Wandering Winos Blog!
Hi friend,
In case you haven’t met us before at one of our festival events, or a few moons ago at our (now closed) cellar door in Waimate – we are Ann & Gary Dennison. We own and operate Point Bush Wines from our gorgeous little piece of paradise in the Hunters Hills of South Canterbury, New Zealand.
We are both busy “retirees-who-refuse-to-retire”, with lots on our plates – between still running Point Bush Wines, boutique Lodge Accommodation, community groups, charity causes and more.
Our Point Bush Wines story begins about 30 years ago experimenting with home brewing and fermenting during our many years based overseas for work. We have lived all over the world, from Singapore, to Fiji, to Thailand, to Iraq. During this time, our little slice of paradise in the hills above Waimate has been a home base for us for decades. It also proved to be the perfect north facing slope and frost-free microclimate – just the spot for planting vines!
Between 2002 and 2004 our vineyard was planted with Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. We produced our own grown and hand crafted boutique vintages from 2006 to 2016. Our focus was always on what we called a “paddock to palate” approach – keeping the distance from fruit harvested to where it was processed down to a minimum. Unlike other vineyards and wineries who sometimes to transport fruit hundreds of kilometers, our vineyard was within a stones throw of the winery back door!
We fondly like to think of this time as our decade dedicated to wine making excellence! With the end of the 2016 vintage we made the decision to move on from being wine growers (which is in a large part a labour of love!) and continue to cellar our boutique vintages in the European style for sale.
We are proud to continue to share our wonderful range of cellared wines with you dear friends, with our online cellar door store available to you 24/7 in the comfort of your own home! You can buy our Point Bush Wines vintages cellared from 2008 through to 2016, with free shipping anywhere in New Zealand. These wines just keep getting better with age!
We hope you enjoy our blog, and would love for you to join us in this little online world. Other than stopping by here at our online cellar door (check out our store here) we also would love for you to connect with us on Facebook and Instagram where we share regular updates too.
Salut!
