Hello, and greetings from Oban! We are just back from a wonderful day trip over to the Isle of Mull, Duart Castle and Tobermory on Mull. We had an excellent look around the castle and the beautiful character port with colourful houses surrounding the harbour.
We caught the ferry this morning from Oban (it was a 45 minute trip over to the Isle of Mull). It is certainly peak season, with lots of fellow tourists onboard plus locals and their cars. (We have to say a huge thank you to all the friendly bus drivers directing everyone where to go!) While we were there, we spent time exploring Duart Castle and Gary met the current Laird Chief wandering around in the grounds with his dogs...so stopped for a chat! This current Maclean is the 28th Chief of Coll.
We then headed to Tobermory and sun came out! It is such a pretty place and harbour, with stunning white sand. We had our fresh seafood platter on the harbourside wharf plus the haddock fish and chips. We were all very much in foodie heaven! (All we needed was a chilled glass of Point Bush Sauvignon Blanc to really top things off)
I dove off into a fabulous little museum, where I could have easily spent another couple of hours immersed in the local history... but sadly I needed to get back on the bus to the ferry. My little fact for you: Robert Louis Stevenson wrote Kidnapped there.
We now say farewell to our friends, pack the car up and return back south (Sat Nav has had a stern talking to this time!). We will rejoin you in York as we head towards Buckinghamshire. Bye for now!
